Experience with Horses

I have loaned and owned horses all my life, I’m currently an owner of 2 x mares who I have at home with me, one of which is my ridden all rounder. I have worked at riding schools and a hunting yard and have exercised all different aged, sized and breeds of horses. I have previously competed on different horses and currently still am competing my own horse in most disciplines. At my previous yard (before moving my horses home), I was exercising all different types of horses, whether they were newbies arriving at the yard, needed bringing on to become children’s riding ponies or whether they needed training; leading out hacks and covering lessons when required. My family own an animal rescue center, which I’m often down there supporting the horse team with the rescue horses needs e.g. farrier, clipping, handling, rehoming etc. Rescued a mare in 2023 who was pregnant, and she gave birth at home with me in July, so have had experience in raising/handling foals. Currently competing my own horse unaffiliated as often as I possibly can in show jumping.

Key Skills

I believe I am a good team worker and also able to work well on my own if/when required. I am very organized and I make sure all jobs that I complete are completed to a high standard. I would say I’m good at keeping calm and quiet around horses that may not be so quiet and calm, who may be nervous around humans or nervous to be handled – This would be down to being at my families rescue center as most of our rescue horses have been mistreated or unfortunately left to fend for themselves etc. I have great communication skills and am a quick learner when it comes down to learning new things.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

The thing I most enjoy about working with horses is when you see noticeable changes in a horse that you have spent a huge amount of time with helping them to develop not only within their ridden work but also their trust and confidence (in all areas e.g. ground work, jumping, flat work, general day to day handling). I love the feeling of achievement and working with horses is really rewarding, I also enjoy the sense of freedom when your working with horses.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would love to improve on plaiting skills, as this is something I can do, but something I have not spent a lot of time doing, and can only do very basic plaits, so there is a lot of room for improvement.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m reliable, a great team worker, I work hard to become as successful as I possibly can be in whatever it is I am doing and my heart is with horses. I always give whatever task I am doing 100% and push to succeed.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would love to just be back outside, working with horses again. I would love to also eventually become a qualified trainer as this has always been something I have wanted to do with my life but have never been able to pursue this as of yet due to other work commitments and the expense of it all.

• Do you need accommodation?

No

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No, I do have a little dog that would be plus/bonus if he could come to work with me, but it is not a necessity.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I currently work full time but am looking to leave to go back working with horses again. I do also have my own horses at home but due to them being at home it gives me a little more flexibility.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

Yes, some time in August and also December (Over Christmas).
