Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
Working as part of a team to care for riding school horses as well as full liveries. Daily routine is to bring in & turn out, grooming, tacking up, mucking out, and teaching variety of clients. Showing strong communication and customer service daily.
I am quick to adapt to situations, confident to handle tricky horses. Building relationships with horses that I work with. I had experience in handling quick thinking competition horses and I have worked with horses that have limited ground manners. I have an eye for detail, I am quick to notice any additional jobs that may need to be done. I lead a team to complete yard chores in a safe and time efficient manner as well as running riding school lessons on time and allocation of horses.
Currently volunteering at a riding school to help with turn out of their horses for riding lessons, treating common leg conditions such as mud fever in cobs, and doing normal yard chores. I have experience in another riding school where I previously worked for 1 year full time and part time for 9 years. In that time I was leading the yard with managers assistance to ensure that all yard duties were completed in a safe and time efficient manner. I had a chance to experience and participated in clipping, pulling/trimming and poulticing for a variety of horses. I had experience in loading horses on a trailer and a horsebox. I had driven a 3.5T box with a horse to a training camp.
I have ridden from naughty ponies to excitable and green horses. I am confident rider. I have ridden ex competition horses which were quick on their feet and sharp. I have schooled green horses but not youngsters. I have my BHS stage 3 ride (Flat & Jump including XC) and BHS stage 2 complete exams. I have previously tried hunting, polo, xc. Most of my riding experience is in flatwork and show jumping.
I have my complete BHS stage 2 exams. I have started my BHS stage 3 training and succesfully passed my Stage 3 ride exam in 2023. I have my full Silver challenge awards. I have completed my BHS road safety in 2019. BHS safeguarding completed in 2023. I have had clear enhanced DBS checks. I have gained my First aid at work level 3 in 2023. Working towards my stage 3 care, lunge and coach exams.
I have volunteered at a competition livery yard. I was left in charge to look after their stables, feeds and grooming at certain times. I have travelled as a groom to unaffiliated show jumping competitions, where I have groomed, tacked up at the events and prepared for loading on to the trailer.
