Experience with Horses
I have worked for various riders as a freelance groom and full time basis predominantly within the showjumping sector. My equestrian experience lies solely in showjumping, hunting and riding school.
Previous employment includes
-Hughes Horse Stud ( Mikey Pender, Hughes Bravo family & PlusVital client ).
– Ben Maher Stables
– Barry O’Connor Showjumping ( Jenny Rankin)
Majority of my experience has been as a freelance groom due to also attending College & University at the same time. Some shows include Hickstead, LGCT Paris, Windsor Horse Show, Hartpury Showjumping Spectacular, Irish Masters, Millstreet International and more.
I am very willing and eager to learn about dressage and eventing as these are areas I have not yet worked in. I take pride in my work environment and love all horses as if they are my own. Previously, I have taken sole charge up to 16 horses however, I do not believe this is safe or appropriate for horse or groom.
I do work best with 3/4 horses maximum in my care if I am alone. This allows me to provide all my energy, focus and attention on my horses whilst maintaining equipment and the yard facilities!
I currently work in a non- Equestrian role and this has only improved my personal skills. I have worked as a claim handler for the last 2 years whilst i invested in a career break. I have upskilled in communication, problem solving, multitask , complaint resolution, maintaining realistic workload and prioritising business urgent work. I would be very open to an equestrian administrative role and feel my skills would be immensely transferable. This is a job i am interested in trying.
Key Skills
Full clean Drivers License and own vehicle, Clipping, plaiting, show turnout, handling stallions, hacking, mane trims.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• My strength is my work ethic. I enjoy going to work every day and like to know i am working hard to earn my money.
I am neat and tidy, finding peace in organisation and keeping equipment in good condition. I take pride in upholding high standards and not allowing my horses to look tatty.
•I would really like to upskill and learn how to administer muscle/vein injections. This is something that was rarely needed in a freelance environment. I would love to get equine first aid training as i luckily have not needed this, and to learn to pull a trailer or get my HGV would also be very exciting. To improve my flat work would be a major plus!
• As a person, I am very easy to work with and I am positive and fun! I enjoy having a laugh, singing and making friends and memories. At shows I work hard and focus on the job. I do not drink much so will never be a hungover worker!
Requirements
• I would like to attend shows every so often but be respected in terms of my working hours. I do not want to be working from 6am – 8pm at night alone. If this is the case, I will have to be correctly paid for these working hours and have assistance.
•Pay per hour including overtime. Contract of employment is necessary with a maximum of 45 hours per week. Extra hours will have to be paid. Time travelling to shows in a lorry must also be paid extra if over my contracted hours. whilst travelling, i am looking after horses.
•Non shared accommodation is ideal however, I am more than happy to share with friendly young woman of a similar age. I will not share with males.
•I do not have any pets to bring with me. If a dog at some point during the employment is allowed that would be great but i can’t see myself getting one.
• I am currently in full time employment within insurance however, if a wonderful opportunity comes along I will be more than happy to move back into the equestrian world.
• Yes! I have holiday booked for 1 week in October 2024, 5 days in March 2025 and 3 days in May 2025
