Experience with Horses
Practically born on a horse! My mother has a livery yard so I have grown up riding and assisting with everything.
My passion is eventing and hunting/team chasing although I’m really getting to love dressage on my current horse.
I have had several part time jobs with horses whilst studying at school and for A levels. This ranged from kids ponies to hunters and youngsters to top dressage horses. I regularly hunt with the Beaufort and have been a member of the pony club for years, achieving my C+ test and trained up to B test. I am a member of British Eventing and compete regularly on my current horse Grub. I have trained several horses from very green to successful competition horses. My special horse “Hawk” had never competed before I had him and had a huge aversion to ditches and water… I was usually in the top 6 when eventing him at BE events. We qualified 3 times for the Badminton Grass roots qualifier. Im currently starting my BE journey with Grub and placed 8th in his first BE.
Key Skills
I am kind but firm with the horses and able to follow instructions whether verbal or written. I can work on my own initiative and unsupervised. I am able to work alone or part of a team and take great pride in my work. I am good at bathing and tack cleaning for competitions. I am used to handling various types and ages of horses incl young stock and brood mares. I like to keep a tidy and organised yard and am very conscious of health & safety. I am able to talk to people from all walks of life, I’m approachable and friendly. I am particularly good at spotting issues with horses from lameness to injuries or a horse just not being its normal self.
