Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

My experience with horses ranges from owning my own since I was young, working at 2 racing yards riding out and general yard duties, working with dressage horses including yard/paddock maintenance, and most recently learning to drive horses and working as an Estate Manager whilst caring for 4 ride and drive horses (sole charge) and competing them.
I also have my class 1 lorry licence which has allowed me to drive the horses and carriages to our events (7.5 tonne lorry plus trailer for carriages behind).

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I enjoy working as part of a team but also work well in a sole charge role. I have been successful working with horses of all temperaments, particularly those who need extra care or have certain quirks. I am a patient individual and an animal lover. At the racing yards I was often asked to ride the more sensitive fillies due to a calm/gentle persona.
I take responsibility for my work and am organised and efficient – transferable skills from working in a very different role (project and account management in the pharmaceutical industry).

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

As an animal lover, working with horses does not feel like work at all. It is a lifestyle that I enjoy all year round.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I enjoy learning new skills in varied disciplines. I feel there are always new things to learn from different establishments.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I feel I am a loyal and hard working/able individual who is a genuine animal lover and someone who gets on easily with people and animals. As a working couple, my husband and I have experience/skills that may suit a wide range of roles and we are very adaptable individuals also.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
