Experience with Horses
Despite my age I have a wide range of experience with horses. I have been a member of Pony Club for 10 years, I have test badges up to B riding and care, including the lunge test and equine first aid. I’m currently working towards the AH test, as well as being a Young Coach.
I have had my own horses for over 10years, I have always had to make the horses I have rather than been brought a horse that can already do it all. Therefore I have broken/backed, brought on and produced my own. This has included veterinary care and rehab. I have not only competed (show jumping, cross-country and eventing) & hunted my own horses but also others.
I was part of the mounted games for many years until I outgrew the ponies, now I help to instruct mounted games. I also have private teaching clients, I not only teach the clients to ride but also school and educate their horses and ponies.
I ad hoc groom at a professional yard and provide equine holiday cover to look after peoples yards and horses when they are away.
I often groom for friends and other pony club members at events when I myself am not completing. I also ride other peoples horses when they do not feel confident to do so themselves, or they wish for their horse to do something for the first time.
I have hunted for the last 10 seasons on multiple different horses. Horses with different temperaments and all sorts of quirks, green and young horses. Taking other horses hunting for first time and also looking after children out hunting, including on lead rein from my horse.
I have grown up on a working farm and this led me to do an apprenticeship on a dairy farm. I have experience working in other aspects of agriculture, such as tractor work and sheep farming. Currently I work in a local cafe and as a ad hoc nanny and babysitter, house sit and dog sit.
Key Skills
I pride myself in working to a high standard. I will happily work alone or in a team environment. I can take instruction but also use my own initiative when needed or ask questions when I am unsure. I am a quick learner and work well under pressure. I can remain calm in stressful situations, as there are often many when working with horses particularly in competition situations. I am good at calming competitors and giving them the confidence they need.
I can plait and turn horses out to a high standard.
As I work with children I also have my first aid, a clear DBS and safe guarding qualification.
I am sports captain for my local young farmers group and am great at organising people.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I love working with horses as they are a huge passion of mine. I love caring for them as well as riding them. I love learning new skills and seeing results when hard work pays off.
I’d like to improve my dressage and although I can clip, would like to create a better finish.
I am eager and willing to learn and help other people learn. I want to experience more in a professional setting. I like to experience new things and am passionate about the sport. I am trustworthy, responsible, reliable, educated and hard working. Additionally if the position involves childcare I work well with young children, teens and young adults.
Requirement
I’m open to all experiences and really looking to gain more knowledge.
I am happy to relocate but therefore would need accommodation.
I would love to be able to bring one of my own horses with me if possible.
As I mentioned above I am a member of pony club and young farmers.
I do have some commitments already in the calendar, to do with pony club AH training etc and a few short holidays over the next year.
Character references can be provided.
