I have worked with horses since leaving school 20 years ago in a variety of yards. I have managed a stud breeding Arabs, assisting with natural covering’s, foaling, backing youngsters, schooling and successfully competing at National level.
Ive worked in competition yards, riding and schooling show jumpers aswell as travelling mares and their foals to a breeding facility for AI and transporting stallions for semen collection.
I have also worked on a point to point and hunt yard. This involved galloping the racehorses and all daily care from mucking out to leading up at the races. The hunting side involved fitness work, turning out to a high standard on hunt days and all aspects of care when they returned home.
For the last 6 years I have worked in peoples private homes as a freelance groom where all aspects of their care has been with me. From arranging and being present for vets/farriers, administering first aid to exercise plans and feed plans.
Key Skills
I can work at a very high standard in a sole charge role but also fit in and work well as a team. Number 1 priority is always providing each horse with the highest level of care tailored to their individual needs. I can carry out everything required from bandaging to clipping, riding/lunging, daily care and first aid.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I pride myself in being extremely reliable and always punctual.
I have a very good eye for detail, in both yard work and horse care. Noticing any change in each horse’s behaviour, performance, physical changes and adapting their care/routine accordingly.
I have extremely good communication skills with both owners and other members of the team.
I also have experience with housekeeping and would happily assist with this too.
Requirements
I have an approaching 2 year old daughter and have care for her 3/4 days weekly. I have a sole charge role caring for 2 horses at each end of the day, so am ideally looking for someone who needs help with morning stables/exercising. I don’t always have childcare on the same days each week but I always know weeks in advance what days I am available to work.
I am not looking for live in nor do I wish to bring my horse with me.
