Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked on a livery yard between 2013 – 2016 with no previous experience. I have done my level 2 certificate in equine care and also learned some further skills whilst working on the yard. I worked there for a year with another stable hand and then worked on my own for the rest of my time there. This included general yard duties of feeding, mucking out, turning out and grooming the horses. I also bathed the horses, clipped and started learning how to bandage tails for transport. I helped get the horses on and off the trailers on the occasion they were travelling. I cleaned and waxed tack to keep them clean and free of damage. I rode the horses in the menage and out on hacks and have also lunged. I worked with horses from ages 3 – 34.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • I work well as part of a team but can also work alone and use my own initiative
  • I have handled horses as young as 3 years old and helped to get them use to grooming. I also assisted in helping the yard owner to break them in
  • I have worked with a horse as old as 34 and made sure he was warm, comfortable, fed and watered at all times
  • I have clipped, bathed and groomed horses
  • I have ridden on hacks and led a horse at the same time
  • I am great at time keeping
  • I have excellent organisational skills

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy getting to know each of their personalities the most. I love being outdoors and keeping active.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I can be a perfectionist which means I prefer to do a job myself and can take on too much, I need to learn to share the workload where necessary!

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I believe I should be considered as I have had previous experience working on a yard with horses of all ages and sizes. I will always arrive on time and do my jobs to the best of my ability. I will care for the horses as if they were my own as this is my passion. As well as working well with animals, I currently work as an assistant manager where I have to sometimes lead a team and also have great customer service skills.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to gain self satisfaction and general happiness. I would like to know I’m making a difference and caring for animals.

• Do you need accommodation?

It is not essential, but if the right opportunity comes up I may need accommodation due to distance

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

My dog – Frank

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

I have two 1 week holidays booked in 2025
