Experience with Horses
I attended the British Racing School in 2012, completing a Level 2 qualification in racehorse care. Since then I have worked in racing yards, a family showjumping/racing yard and an eventing yard, the last five and a half years in a NH racing yard where I worked as assistant head girl, broke in the youngsters, took horses to the races and rode a lot of the trickier horses. I have ridden in point to points and reschooled exracehorses to showjump, event and currently have one who has qualified for the exracehorse class at Hickstead in June
I was head girl at an eventing, sales and livery yard for two years, taking on the liveries myself when the eventers relocated.
I currently work as a freelancer, mostly taking sole charge.
Key Skills
I am experienced working in a team and in sole charge. I regularly drive 3.5t lorries, I clip, turnout to a high standard and have plenty of experience with young/tricky/competition horses. I have basic medical knowledge, having worked alongside vets in the racing yard.
I also currently work in a pub, and for the last four years as the fundraising coordinator for a PTSD charity, so I have admin experience too.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Horses are a huge passion of mine, whether it be looking after them or riding. Having spent the last twelve years working with high performance horses, I would love to be able to use the skills I’ve learned in a lower pressured environment, where I can enjoy horses at a slower pace and give a high level of care!
Requirements
I am looking for a job that doesn’t require too much travel, live in (dependant on location) where I could bring one horse and a cat (he is currently a house cat). I have currently got a rota which I would like to honour until the end of January, and will need to give one months notice anyway, but I don’t have any holidays booked.
