Experience with horses:
I started horse riding lessons at the age of 10 and developed my love for the sport since. I enjoy all aspects of owning/working with horses. I have previously had a few ponies and horses on loan myself where I had frequent lessons.
Since then, I have worked for the owners of Hatton country world, on their horse yard, full of fit working hunters. During this job I had to; turn horses out/bring them in, feed, change rugs, bath ready for hunts, hack out/lunge/exercise all horses and muck out stables after use. When they would return from hunting, they would be washed off, fed and rugged up ready to go in the stable. The next morning they would be trotted up to ensure they are sound and legs were checked for cuts/thorns.
Key skills:
I work well on my own and as part of a team. I can confidently bring in and turn out horses. I can confidently change rugs and feed horses. I do know how to ride, as I have had my own horses on loan before and previously worked on a hunting yard. I can also confidently lunge horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• I enjoy working with horses as I believe getting outside and active helps improve my fitness and mental health. Horses and any animals make me happy and I enjoy taking care of them.
• I would like to expand my knowledge around horses and better my riding skills. I would also like to better my skills in bandaging and plaiting.
• I am a quick active learner. I take pride in my work and make sure it’s completed to the best of my ability. I am always willing to learn more and grow my knowledge/skills. I can work independently and as a team, using my initiative and good with having to think on the spot.
