Experience with Horses
I have over 20years experience being in the equine industry. I began riding at a young age but from age 13 I started in the industry. I began volunteering at my riding school in NZ before buying my own horse and competing in a variety of disciplines but focused on eventing. By age 18 I had worked at a stud farm and then as an event groom.
After returning to the UK I completed BTEC level 3 in Horse Management at Myerscough. For the last 13 years I have worked in two different riding schools. Unfortunately, the second riding school closed down and from that I branched out on my own to operate my own freelance equestrian services.
Key Skills
My main key skill is my coaching. I am able to communicate with my riders in a manner that helps them to be comfortable and gain confidence in their skills both on and off the horse.
I am physically capable of doing yard jobs.
I have proven throughout my working life that I am capable of working in a team or as an individual. I have also proven myself in various supervisor roles, including running yards when yard owners/managers have been away.
With the variety of yards I have worked at or done work experience at I have gained experience and knowledge of working with a variety of different horses ranging in age, sex, breed.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the physicality of the job and just being able to work with horses. It is an area in which I am most comfortable.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I always think that my riding skills can improve. As capable as I am at clipping, I don’t have any experience at clipping faces.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
As well as years of experience in a variety of roles I have qualifications and I am always willing to learn new skills/knowledge.
I believe to be an effective manager you have to be able to communicate in a respectful way that allows people to be able to grow. In the same way that I teach; firm but kind.
I am also a 2 star judge and the North West regional rep for Working Equitation.
