Experience with Horses
My experience around horses started when I started horse riding around age 6, since then I had kept up with riding lessons and around age 14 I was volunteering at my local riding school during school holidays and at weekends. I went to college for 2 years achieving a level 3 diploma in Equine Management. Since going to college I have worked on a livery yard for nearly 4 years where I carried out all normal yard duties and daily care for around 40 horses being a mix of livery and grass livery horses. I have dealt with all types of injures including ulcers in the eye, uveitis, leg wounds and abscesses.
At this livery yard we have previously had 2 stallions in which I was handling daily, I have also handled young boisterous horses and a mare and foal.
Whilst I am confident in handling all types of horses I am not complacent and always have mine, the people around me and the horses safety in mind.
Key Skills
I work very well in a team but I do work just as efficiently alone. I haven’t ridden in a while but in college I used to be given the young fizzy horses as I had a quiet seat but I also had the laid back horses and got them working forward and in an outline so I can adapt my riding depending on the horse.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The thing I enjoy most about working with horses is seeing them happy and healthy and if injured I love seeing them heal and return back to themselves. They are loving creatures and with love and attention they will give you there best. I enjoy seeing the different personalities of each individual and no horse is the same.
Personally I would like to improve on my riding, I would also like to improve my knowledge further within the industry.
Employers should consider me above other job seekers as I am a dedicated and hard working individual. I am exceptionally good at keeping a well maintained and clean yard whilst keeping the horses wellbeing as my main priority. Once I am in a routine I am a quick learner and I hold my personal standards very high when set certain tasks.
Requirements
I would like to gain more knowledge in the industry and eventually progress within the business.
I would not need accommodation as I have my own car and would be able to commute to work.
