Experience with Horses
I’ve been around horses for 14 years. I’ve worked in the equine industry since 2016 where I started off at a riding school and completed my gold YELA award while getting hands on experience. This developed my confidence and customer service.
I then progressed onto working on a 5 star event yard where I cared for the horses on a daily basis ensuring their welfare needs were met.
I then gradually moved onto a showjumping yard where I was riding breakers and exercising the horses for clients.
As well as this I worked on an international dressage yard where I developed my riding further for high profile clients. Working on busy yards developed my equestrian handling skills as well as my confidence.
Im currently at Reaseheath college doing a Level 3 advanced technical extended diploma in equine management/behaviour. Here I completed my BHS stage 2 exams and am currently revising for my BHS stage 3. Last year I was offered the position to work for the college over the summer which I happily accepted to progress with new knowledge and a variety of horses.
Because of the variety of yards and people I’ve worked with I can easily adapt to new work.
Key Skills
I am particularly good at working on my own but can easily adapt to a team environment.
My skills lie mostly in the practical side but I like to keep up to date in the theory side where I can.
My key skills are: plaiting (plaited for competitions and events), I am a quiet rider making me good at riding young and inexperienced horses, equine first aid, handling challenging horses and turning out for shows. I have previously done a good amount of clipping for clients however this is an area I’d like to work on and developed more confidence with.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I mostly enjoy the challenge working with horses. It’s a very rewarding career as I’ve found while producing ponies and horses up the levels.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
-Clipping skills,
-Develop my riding to a competitive level
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am very hard working person who is fast and efficient and I love a good challenge. I work well in a team but can also work well on my own taking sole charge of yards.
I will go always go above and beyond ensuring everything has been done to a high standard.
I have experiences in the equine world having worked for a variety of people. This has given me new knowledge and experiences.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I’d like the option to be able to ride and potentially compete if this was an option. I want to gain new experiences working with high performance horses as well as wanting to develop my current skills and knowledge further. I’d like to continue to progress wanting to go up to BHS stage 4 as well as getting a HGV license.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes please
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
– Mini labradoodle (dog)
– I currently don’t have a horse at the moment however I am potentially viewing on for full loan to move yards.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I’m currently a full time student Reaseheath and due to finish in June however with all my work and assignments nearly finished I may be leaving much earlier.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No
