Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services.

For 2 years I worked at a yard where I did a mixture of jobs. I managed a riding school, the lessons and riding school horses, mares and foals, young horses, hunters and eventers.

I exercised 8 hunters each day, hacking and schooling. Managing feeding, vet, farrier turning out horses to a very high standard and day to day running and care of the yard dealing with serious vet cases and caring for the horses

I was also involved in teaching lessons to young children, helping with RDA and taking hacks out for all abilities.

Within this role I completed my apprentice in horse care.

From this job I moved to an event yard in Stoke Prior. My role included daily chores, mucking out, feeds, turn out, getting horses on and off the walker, changing rugs and checking ponies in the field. In this role I was handling many different types of horses, stallions, geldings, mares with foals at foot and fit event horses.

Working as team each day with my colleagues to organise our work load and make sure all stables were mucked out to a high standard, all horses and looked after and worked. Organising the farrier and vet if need.

Each day would consist of lunging, long reining and hacking out the horses. Handling mares and foals for the vet and assisting with scanning of pregnant mares.

I am now currently at a small animal vet practise and on weekends working on a dressage yard, Turning out fit dressage horses and stallions.

Key Skills

I enjoy working alone and in a team, I am very capable at both. Plaiting up and turning out hunters for hunting, pony’s for driving shows and eventing. Handling young horses, stallions, mares and foals and assisting breaking in young horses. Riding, hacking and schooling

Communication with all people, vets, farrier. Organising hay, straw and feed deliveries .

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy the feeling at the end of a day when you achieve something, whether that’s riding well, turning a horse out beautifully, anything on the yard. • Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my technical knowledge. And clipping

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am very hard working, I understand horses can be difficult and it can be very hard. Winters are hard and you have to get through it. I push through hard times and come out strong Doing well in my job. I want to do well with everything I do.
