Experience with Horses

I have been riding since the age of 4, having had a year off due to scoliosis correction surgery 4 years ago, with no complications and have returned for the last 3 years un-hindered by the surgery, back competing, teaching and riding. I rode for 8 years at riding schools on a variety of ponies and horses, attending every pony day possible. I got my first loan pony at the riding school who taught me to jump, hack and gallop. I then loaned my first non-riding school pony, a cheeky new forest who I outgrew quite quickly. I then got my first taste of a schooled horse and learnt how to school and jumped up to 3ft 3′. I was brought my first horse an ex-top level competition horse who is a schoolmaster. I do everything with him from schooling to cross country and hunter trials, show jumping, dressage and arena eventing.  I am looking for a yard or centre who can help me achieve my goals and further my knowledge.

Key Skills

  • Organised
  • Can work in a team or alone
  • trustworthy and dedicated
  • hardworking
  • quick to learn

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • I love learning new things! Either by carrying them out or by watching and then perfecting and remembering the new skills. I also love the groundwork as well as the riding.
  • I’d like to improve my knowledge and skill set of working horses to various levels and of different fitness levels both when ridden and from the ground. I’d also like to improve my knowledge, the ‘why’ behind the skills I learn.
  • Employers should consider me above any other job seeker because I am hardworking, eager to learn and polite, I’m dedicated to the welfare and well-being of my horses and the horses I work with. I am a selected rider for the program LegUpForTalent SponsorMeDirect program – a completely new approach for the talented young riders to secure grassroots sponsorship. I also have a sense of humour!
  • One of my weaknesses is that I am not 100% confident in dealing with quirky horses until I know them and how to handle them. Horses that kick or bite do make me nervous. I am a small build but if I know how to handle each horse’s quirk I’d become more confident.
