Experience with Horses

I am 26 years old and have been riding since I was 4 years old. I got my first pony at 15 which is also when I got my first equine job. I worked at Norton Heath EC for 3 years while I did my GCSE’s and A Levels. This role meant I was working with big fit competition horses as well as stallions and young stock. I did all general yard duties, as well as preparing for competitions and exercising the horses.

Alongside this, I helped at my local riding school and riding for the disabled centre again doing yard duties and assisting in lessons etc.

After leaving college I went to work in the city so left Norton Heath but I continued to teach at the livery yard my horse was stabled and I groomed for people at weekends for shows and holiday cover.

In 2016 I started working for an Equine Veterinary Practice. This role was 50% admin & 50% nursing so as you can imagine I learnt an awful lot about horse care. My duties included assisting the vet with surgery/treatments as well as taking over the day to day care of the horses and riding them if need be.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• I love how much respect horses demand and I love building a relationship with them . There is no better feeling than having a horse that wants to work for you and alongside you.

• I would like to improve my knowledge with different aspects of showing as I have only ever show jumped and competed in dressage. I need to work on plaiting too as I only really plait with bands and not thread.

• I am incredibly hard working and thrive on being busy. I am confident and naturally good with horses and therefore willing to take on whatever job is thrown my way.
