Experience with Horses
Show groom in UK & Belgium: September 2018 – July 2019
I started working for Joe and his fiancé in September 2017 at a small yard in the UK. We travelled to various shows including; Hickstead, Keysoe, Vale view, Arena UK and so on.
Joe, his fiancé, the horses and I moved to a yard in Belgium. Due to the progress of Joe’s achievements, he then became the rider for Ashford farm and I then began to work for Ashford farm in Belgium in June.
- Normal yard duties (muck out, feed, turn out)
- Exercise horses (Lunge, walker, hand walk)
- Keep yard clear and tidy at all times
- Night checks
- Tidy up and plait manes
- Apply minor first aid treatment and medication
- Prepare lorry and horses for shows
- Prepare show stables
- Make horses ready to a high standard for their classes
- Set up practice jumps for training and before classes
- Load / unload horses on Lorries
October 2017 – July 2018
I worked at a Pre training and rehabilitation yard for racehorses. My daily duties include;
- Turning in/out
- Rugging
- Lunging
- Putting horses on/off the walker
- Applying/administering medicine
- Applying bandages
- Grooming to a high standard for owners to view horses
- Showing horses to owners
- Tacking up for riding/ lunging/ high-speed treadmill/ equi-spas/ water treadmill
- Using the high-speed treadmill

Feb 2017 – July 2017, Racing Yard
I worked at the racing yard for 5 months and enjoyed every bit of it. I was a stable hand with the duties of;
- Mucking out shavings and straw beds,
- Filling hay nets,
- Tack cleaning,
- Tidy muckheap,
- Feed and water,
- Wash/clean horses,
- Change rugs,
- Sweep and tidy yard,
- Turn out horses & catch and bring in,
- Take horses to and from the horse walkers
- Paint stables,
- Handle new borns and yearlings.
- Night checks and night piles (When I lived in),
- Help on open days.
March 2012: Brooksby College – Equine centre
I completed work experience at Brooksby college during my time at Long Field School. I was responsible for;

- Grooming the horses,
- Cleaning out stables,
- Exercising the horses,
- Feeding and watering the horses.
- Clean tack and tack room.
- Turning the horses out to and from the fields.
2012 – 2014: Voluntary work at a Riding Centre
I took on voluntary work duties were to;
- Clean out stables,
- Groom the horses,
- Feed and water the horses,
- Turning the out horses to and from the fields,
- Exercise / ride the horses,
- Assist with riding lessons,
- Clean tack and tack room
I have also made an advertisement on preloved to ride and help back people’s horses. Through this, I have ridden 5-8 horse’s including a very newly backed 4 year old.
I also part loaned an 11 year old hunter and got her back into light work after a long break.
Key Skills
I am good at working alone and also part of a team. I can clip, plait tails really well but I do need to improve my mane plaiting. I have experience with handling all aged horse’s including newly born foals and racehorses. I have experience riding young horses as well as the older plod alongs. I can ride flat (walk, trot, canter, gallop) and also over jumps. I can bath and groom to a good standard.

I’d like to improve my riding abilities.

I am a very hard worker with big dreams and will work as hard as I can to make my dreams come true. I am also polite, punctual and very eager to learn everything I can about new and different disciplines.
