Experience with Horses

In my previous and current job this is the daily management I deal with : general care of the horses, maintaining fields and structures, working and managing a team and alone, taking stock and ordering, creating and sorting the rota for the month, assisting with the vets, farrier, physiotherapist etc, communicating in a friendly manner with members of the public, liveries and staff (maintaining good relationships), making sure that everything is done regardless if it goes over work hours to make sure things are completed as efficiently as possible, to a high standard, doing research and any available training in order to keep my skills and knowledge at their best, going to and assisting at competitions, abroad and local, caring for the horses whilst travelling for long hours and at the shows, keeping schedules and having to manage time constraints, aid with the backing/breaking and training of horses/ponies in a safe manner, and providing help to young children in riding/handling their ponies.

Key Skills

Key skills that I have include mucking out quickly and efficiently to an industrial speed, working alone and with others (as stated before), clipping, plaiting, bandaging, handling difficult/young horses, being very organised and structured, good at working with children – I am very patient and calm which proves to be a good method with also handling anxious riders/people.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• The most thing I enjoy about horses is the progress I see in them, particularly horses that I groom at shows to compete- training them, and then seeing their improvement in the job that they are doing, and seeing them enjoy it! Especially young horses that I help break/back and helping train them- their owners smiles on their faces make me so happy when they get to enjoy what they’re doing with them.

• Things that I would like to improve in are: being more confident in the work that I do and put in, and knowing that I do a good job, and just my general knowledge of horses and how I can help them more – if that means training, first aid or riding,

• Employers should consider me as I am very down to earth, loyal and passionate about what I do, and I think they are great  qualities in people, especially if employers are looking for someone to listen and want to be apart of their team. I think I have a good sense of humour and am very cheerful to be around! I will always try my best, I’m not scared to ask questions or ask for help if I need it, and am very organised and tidy and want everything to look how I would want my own yard to be presented like.

Requirements

• I love being a groom, whether that be working on a livery yard, competition groom or just a private home groom caring after family’s horses. Being around horses in general is a huge passion for me and I enjoy any work.

• Accommodation; if it is not local to the Cambridgeshire area I would need it unless I can find somewhere to rent in the surrounding area – as I have a partner and possibly pets to consider.
