Grooms sought for five-star livery yard in Berkshire, 26-28 horses in total split between two yards. You should be able to work to a high standard of mucking out/grooming (though training can be given), and must be confident handling fit competition horses. Riding is not compulsory but there is riding available for the right candidate, mainly hacking and light schooling on well-schooled competition horses. The facilities are excellent with indoor/outdoor school, covered areas for washing down, heated staff room, rug laundry and large tack-rooms. The equestrian centre is also part of a 1750 acre farm so the hacking is superb!
The hours are regular being 7am-4pm five days a week to include one weekend day, and possibly a late check but this won’t be every week (8-9pm to skip out, hay round and lock up). To keep the standard of our service high we have a good ratio of grooms to horses, usually 5-6 grooms on the main yard (20 horses), with an hour’s break or two half hour breaks given each day. You will work on a large team with some apprentices and other experienced grooms, we are open to applications from all ages/backgrounds with reliability being key. We do also have a smaller yard of only 6-8 horses where you would work more independently with just one other person, if that appeals more, we are flexible on which yard applicants can work on.
We welcome applicants for full or part-time roles but do require some weekend working. We do not have any accommodation left so for now you will need to live-out and we also have no staff stables left so are looking for someone who may live locally, who does not need to bring a horse.
No qualifications needed, ideally previous experience with competition horses or livery yards.
There could be accommodation and room for a staff horse in future.
Full company pension, paid holiday, regular hours and an organised rota/leave system.
