Equine Veterinary Technicians – Full time

We are seeking highly dedicated and experienced horse handlers to join our Equine Team based in Towcester and Onley.  Must be confident to handle any horse for lunging and trotting up.  We are an RCVS accredited, independent practice, with a friendly team who are dedicated to delivering great service with a personal touch.  We treat a varied mix of leisure and competition horses, and the high orthopaedic and first opinion caseload offers interesting and varied clinical work.

Working as part of the nursing team, you will be involved in organising equipment and drugs for vets, setting up equipment, safely handling horses during examination, clearing/cleaning up following examinations and subsequent treatment.  Following successful training, you may also undertake in house laboratory testing.

The positions require individuals with experience in equine care and horse handling skills, ideally confident to ride horses as part of lameness work-ups to assist the Vet to achieve an accurate diagnosis.  The ability and motivation to work in a fast-paced environment within a growing department is also essential.  A key part of the role is ensuring that high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and equine welfare are maintained, alongside providing first class support and assistance to our vets.

The ideal candidates will be able to work well as part of a team and possess excellent communication skills and a ‘can do’ attitude. They will have a friendly and professional approach to customer service, plus attention to detail and the required fitness level to thrive in a physical role!

The Towcester-based vet tech will work closely with one of our senior Veterinary surgeons, driving to appointments, setting up the required equipment and assisting as required – maintaining safe working practices within clinic and on client yards and ensuring that the vet is able to work efficiently at all times.

Applicants must have a full driving licence and use of a vehicle. You may also be required to drive a Practice vehicle, and to meet the insurance requirements for this you must be 25 years old or above.

These are full time roles (4 day week) with the opportunity for overtime.  Once trained, you will join the weekend on call rota for our main site – 1 weekend in 4.  Following successful completion of probation there will be the option to undertake veterinary nursing training if desired.
