5 top tips to get your equine job application ACCEPTED!

Get your equine job application ACCEPTED!

5 top tips to help you beat the rest to that perfect job.

1. Add your Jobseekers Profile to The Grooms List, even if you haven’t yet seen a job you like yet.

The Grooms List team cannot stress enough the importance of adding your Jobseekers Profile and keeping it up to date with a current CV attached. More than any other Recruitment Agency, we regularly contact Grooms/Riders on The Grooms List and contact individuals with details of any jobs we think might be of interest. If we know what you’re looking for we can get in touch with you often before a job is even advertised. If you don’t have a Jobseekers Profile we can’t do this! Add your Jobseekers Profile now.

2. Add a CV.Equine Careers - get that equine job application accepted!

We know that some of you have previously taken work via word of mouth, and making a CV is an inconvenience – you’ve added your Jobseekers Profile, why the need for a CV too? Here’s why. A CV tells us a lot about you as a person – details of your equine and non-equine qualifications, where you’ve worked, what you did in that job, your reasons for leaving each job – all questions you will be asked when applying for a job. It can make you absolutely more or less ‘interesting’ to potential employers. Do yourself a favour, don’t get around to it, do it now!

You might not think that your summer working at Costa Coffee, or your 2 years in an office job is relevant to a job with horses, but your work ethic and achievements will tell a prospective employer a lot about what you will bring to a new job. Even if you’re a school leaver looking for your first job, make a CV. Include your hobbies, work experience programs, voluntary experience and any exam results, certificates and awards you’ve won. The fact that you’ve made a CV show’s initiative, incentive, and a professional approach, and can be the tipping factor in you nailing your equine job application. We will ALWAYS ask you for a CV – save time later and make yours now. Download our CV template here.

3. Keep your Jobseekers Profile, contact details and CV up to date.

When you apply for jobs your Jobseekers Profile tells us how suitable you are for the position. If details or your CV are missing, we have to contact you to ask for them – while we are waiting to hear from you other candidates are applying, interviewing and possibly taking that job!

Update your Jobseekers Profile on The Grooms List

In addition to this, each time you update your Jobseekers Profile and attached CV you are moved to the top of our search results and you are more likely to be offered work. Not only this, you need employers to believe they should employ you above anyone else. Think about how an employer would interpret a half-hearted attempt at advertising your availability and abilities? Get ahead, complete and update your profile and CV regularly. Skipping or rushing your Jobseekers Profile could cost you your perfect job!
Update your Jobseekers Profile now.

4. Update your earliest start date REGULARLY!

Sometimes it takes a while to find the right fit for you, and as time passes quickly your “earliest start date” soon falls into the past. When an employer finds a profile with an “earliest start date” of a month or more ago they tend to assume you will have found work by now and are no longer available, so they won’t contact you (we know, they tell us this!). Simply remembering to update your start date every so often keeps potential employers attention, and also counts toward updating your Jobseekers Profile so you appear at the top of the search results! Be vigilant and make sure your earliest start date isn’t a thing of the past. What have you got to lose (apart from that perfect job)? Update your Earliest Start Date now.
