  1. Experience with Horses

I have been riding since the age of 8 and volunteered at my local riding school until the age of 17, helping with children’s camps, competitions and the general care of the horses. During this time I had a lovely event horse which I would compete regularly at BE90s and 100s and showjumping up to 110cm. I also gained some BHS qualifications. I realised that this is what I wanted to be doing as a job and continued my training and exams at Wellington Riding.

I was offered a job there at 18 as a groom and coach and I worked there for 2.5 years, gaining further experience with all aspects of horse care as well as coaching skills, training and some competing. I also completed my BHS Stage 3 and some of my Stage 4.

Towards the end of my time at Wellington, the Hong Kong Jockey Club moved their event and para dressage horses to the yard and it seemed a fantastic opportunity for me to expand my knowledge of care for event-specific horses competing up to 3*. I decided to work there on a part time basis, as there were no full time opportunities available. Along side this I work sole charge at the Duke of Wellington’s private yard where he keeps 6 horses in varying disciplines. I have been working at these two yards for around 6 months and now I am looking to find a full time job working with event horses.

Key Skills

I am capable of taking sole charge as well as working alongside others. Competent with most aspects of horse care including plaiting, clipping, lunging and handling stallions and young horses.

I am a keen rider and am looking for a job that will allow me to train and move up the levels of eventing. I will gladly ride anything and have experience backing young horses and producing them as well as retraining ex racehorses. I am capable of exercising/schooling horses on the flat and over fences as well as fitness training.

Outside of horses, I can drive and have my own car, I’m first aid trained and speak Danish and French as well as understanding and speaking some Spanish.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I enjoy all aspects of horse care and I’m eager to learn and continue to improve and refine my skills. The welfare of the horse is my priority and I am a bit of a perfectionist!

I would like to gain more experience going to shows, abroad or around the UK, as a groom, and turning the horses out for competitions. I am also looking to gain my HGV license.

Requirements

In my next job, I would like to be able to train and learn both on and off the horse. I would also like to be able to compete my own horse for my personal growth in the industry and overall enjoy and take pride in my work.
