Experience with Horses
I have had 30 years working in the Equine Industry. I started with hunters and polo ponies and riding out racehorses. I then moved to Ireland where I spent 17 years. In this time I was stud groom to the Tipperary Foxhounds, worked in point to point yards, was head girl in a couple of racing yards, worked as a racing secretary and also had my own livery yard where I had sales prep horses, hunters and horses in for rehab. For the last 3 years I have been running a private hunting/competition yard with 8 horses. 6 in full time work and 2 retirees. I have sourced 5 of the horses myself and bought them on from raw 4/5 years olds to well mannered all rounders.
Key Skills
I can bandage, clip, plait, trim, inject IV/IM, administer equine first aid. I pride myself on the turnout of my horses and care for my horses. I’m good at working with others and on my own, have very high standards and organizational skills. I would never ask anyone to do a job that I wasn’t happy doing myself. Love transforming horses. Have a sense of humour!
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy seeing my horses go on and do well, look well and feel well. Love my horses to exceed their owners expectations, being in a competition, a race, on the hunting field or even just going for a hack.
I enjoy that what you put in is what you get out and you never stop learning. ‘Every day is a school day’
Love that feeling last thing at night when they are all wrapped up in their beds and happy.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Always open to improving myself
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I bring with me a wealth of knowledge, a love and a passion that I have had since I was a little girl. I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in. If I get something wrong – which we all do as we are only human I’ll admit to it and own it. I will treat employers horses as well as I treat my own and understand that team work and mutual respect is very important. Have ran my own yards I understand the day to day pressures and can alleviate some of that pressure.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would love to carry on using my knowledge to enable my next boss to enjoy their horses knowing they are well looked after and performing to the best of their capabilities. I also feel that you never stop learning in this industry.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes, sole occupancy
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have two medium sized well behaved dog and a retired gelding who lives out full time but needs a friend
