Experience with Horses

I have worked up and down the country in a wide variety disciplines including dressage, polo, stud work, dealer/sales yards, hunting, and my ultimate passion, show-jumping; working at small yards with only 6 boxes, upwards of 45, amongst large teams of people as well as taking sole charge. I am very happy working alone and within a team. I have been to many national shows, as well as some international, including a 7 week tour in Portugal with a string of 12 horses.

Key Skills

Backing/breaking/schoolingyoung horses
Clipping
Plaiting
Mane/tail pulling/hogging
All show preparation
Preparing a polo team
Preparing horses for hunting
Flatwork, hacking, hunting & jumping
Keeping horses fit
Lunging
Involvement with management of competition horses, including stallions, e.g – vet and farrier appointments and discussion to obtain best performance for each individual horse.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I love a challenge and especially working with youngsters or ‘problem’ horses, establishing a connection to provide a positive outcome for both horse, rider, employer and where relevant, customers. I really love to see the growth in these horses and it’s always rewarding to see them progress through the age classes at shows and have felt very proud to have worked with some horses in their first ranking classes, Grand Prix show-jumpers and Dressage horses.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I feel very confident within my abilities but I’d love to perfect my plaiting skills and to learn different methods and understand what is most effective and efficient; and to be able to pass this knowledge on to new members of the team to achieve professional standards.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am a hard working individual, who has had a passion for horses since I was 6 years old, I am always willing to put the work in and to feel part of a family amongst the team.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would love to work with show-jumpers again as this is my true passion and to perfect some of the skills I already have, as well as being able to improve my riding with further training and hopeful possibility of competing again.

• Do you need accommodation?

Dependant on location of employment.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No additional requirements/pets.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I may need to care for my dad when needed who is disabled (this can be discussed).

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

None currently.
