Experience with Horses
I have had experience with horses from the age of only 5. I was part of the Garth South Pony Club participating in one day Eventing. At the age of 11, I qualified for the National Eventing Championships and went on to win several competitions. By the age of 12 I was competing in BE 100 on my Thoroughbred horse that I had trained myself and grew up with. I was lucky enough to train with Richard Waygood MBE where he taught me to ride to a high standard.
During this time, I had to look after the 3 horses that we had at our stables. This included; mucking out, maintenance of the paddock, grooming, tack cleaning, plaiting and all round horse care.
As we all know having and looking after horses is expensive and as I was getting more and more competitive, the finances unfortunately couldn’t keep up with me. Although as a family we tried, we had to give up on this dream.
This was reawakened when I had the opportunity to join Kings Troop with the Royal Artillery in the British Army. This was an incredible experience, where I brushed up on previous skills and expanded them due to the sheer size of the operation. I was responsible for looking after 12 horses within my section. Where I learnt the different side of horse care, where turnout of horse, rider and tack was absolutely key to the job role. This was a high pressure environment where I felt I really thrived in (the horses made the hard work worthwhile).
I am currently based in London but am willing to relocate.
Key Skills
I am a real team player who enjoys working together in a team but also happy and confident to work alone. I am an experienced rider who has had the challenge of working with tricky/green horses in the past. I have experience in dressage, show jumping, cross country as well as hacking, schooling and lunging.
I have had to perform basic duties such as grooming, mucking out and general stable care to a very high standard. With experience in turn out for events such as plaiting, clipping and making sure all equipment for horse and rider is squeaky clean.
I am a down to earth confident communicator who is organised and enjoys working with structure. I have great attention to detail and able to work in any high pressure environment and show good time-keeping skills to be able to meet tight deadlines. I am a determined ambitious individual always looking to develop my skills.
Strengths and Weaknesses
The thing I love most about working with horses is the connection and bond that can be developed. I enjoy the harmony between horse and rider whether it be on their back between their ears or just day to day care.
If there was anything I would say I wish to improve it would be gaining the relevant qualifications such as BHS and potentially teaching qualifications.
I believe that I would be a great asset to any yard because I have an honest passion for horses and have done since I can even remember! I am a loyal hard worker who is not afraid to get my hands dirty. I am prepared to go above and beyond to make sure that the horses are as well looked after as physically possible. If you choose me I will spend everyday proving to you why I was the right decision.
Requirements
- As someone who is passionate about gaining skills I am always looking at finding ways of developing, qualifications like BHS or instructor qualifications would be a welcome bonus.
- Due to my passion I am always willing to gain qualifications that will help my work in my own time, for example: trailer/driving larger vehicle licenses.
Accommodation
- It would be preferable to be provided with accommodation but living out would not be an issue.
