Experience with Horses
Having nearly 10 years of experience in the equine world, working in a variety of disciplines with various professional riders, I like to think I’ve seen a lot in my years but I am looking forward to seeing so much more. I have worked my way up from being an apprentice with very little knowledge to now being a trusted head groom left in sole charge. I have worked on showjumping, dressage, carriage driving and hunting yards, from lone riders with with three horse to yards with thirty horses.
Key Skills
In my current job, I really thrive on having the responsibility of being in charge when the owners are away competing at international shows. When my boss is away, I house-sit and undertake all duties from feeding, turnout out, exercising including assisting the liveries and looking after the yard dogs. Although I don’t get the opportunity to go to shows as much as I would like in my current job, I do get each horse ready for the shows i.e bathing, clipping, trimming, brushing. I enjoy going to shows as I thrive on the busy pace when there is always somewhere to be or something that needs to be done..
I have also over the years taken on various roles that go alongside my freelance grooming. I have retail experience work in 2 well know equine business. I have being house sitting for the past few years alongside my full time job which includes looking after an array of animals including dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, cows and even a gecko! I have also worked with children on some of the family yards, which has been fun helping them progress with their ponies, with a bit of babysitting when needed.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love seeing each horse grow, not only under saddle, but also in confidence and and condition.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I’d like to continue to keep learning new training methods and more show grooming. Also get my HGV license.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
My dedication to the welfare of all animals. I have proved myself to be excellent in a crisis on several occasions, including saving the life of a horse which became impaled on a fence post while the owner was away.
I am trustworthy and efficient, and definitely not afraid of hard work.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I’d like to continue my training in equine care and management and potentially do my HGV licence.
• Do you need accommodation?
If further afield accommodation would be required
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
Outside or garden access for one dog. If there is the possibility of bringing a horse, a stable and field space would be required.
