Experience with Horses

I have over 20 years of experience across multiple areas of the equestrian industry. Having owned horses throughout my life, I have developed strong practical knowledge of horse care, management, and training. I currently own and ride my own horse, maintaining regular schooling and conditioning.

I am a confident and experienced rider with experience in dressage, show jumping, eventing, and showing. I have also successfully started and brought on young horses, including my own, developing them through early training and basic schooling.

My experience includes general horse management, handling a range of temperaments, and maintaining horses to a good standard of fitness and presentation. I am reliable, adaptable, and able to work with a flexible schedule to suit yard or competition needs.

Key Skills

  • Communication & Instruction: Experience working and teaching at an activity centre, delivering clear instructions and supporting participants of varying ages, abilities, and confidence levels.

  • Customer Service: Comfortable interacting with a wide range of clients and maintaining a professional and approachable manner.

  • Responsibility & Safety Awareness: Used to working in environments where safety, organisation, and clear procedures are essential.

  • Organisation & Reliability: Strong time management and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Developed through completing a Law degree, demonstrating attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to handle responsibility.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Working with horses has always been a very important part of my life and something that brings me a great deal of enjoyment. I particularly enjoy the process of developing horses over time and seeing their confidence and ability grow. It is very rewarding to see a horse improve through consistent training and care, and equally satisfying when that progress helps their rider or owner gain confidence and move forward with them. Building that partnership between horse and rider is one of the aspects of the sport I find most fulfilling.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

One of the reasons I enjoy horse riding so much is that it is an area where there is always more to learn and improve on. Every horse is different, which constantly provides opportunities to develop my riding, training approach, and overall horsemanship. I am always keen to keep learning, whether that is through riding different horses, gaining more experience in training young horses, or continuing to improve my technical riding skills across different disciplines.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I believe my lifelong experience with horses has given me a strong understanding of their behaviour and needs. I am confident in my ability to read horses, work with different temperaments, and respond calmly and effectively in different situations. Combined with my riding experience and practical knowledge of horse care and training, I believe I can be a reliable and capable addition to a yard or team.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like a role where I can both ride and care for horses, contributing to their daily management, exercise, and development. I am keen to continue building my experience with different horses while being part of a well-run yard.

• Do you need accommodation?

Accommodation would be required unless the position is located within Powys or within a reasonable commuting distance.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I own my own horse. Ideally, I would need the possibility of keeping my horse on-site or nearby, unless the role is within Powys or close to a suitable livery yard.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I am currently studying  a masters in law online.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No, I currently have no holidays booked.
