  1. Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have been riding horses since i was 4 years old and we have always had horses around at home, they have always been a very important part of my life and i have now competed at national level with my current horse Murray. I got my first job on a hunt yard at the age of 14 where i hacked out the horses getting them fit for the season and i also helped school their youngster on the yard- along with general yard duties and maintenance. I have worked at 2 yards, the other being a family owned farm where i also did the jobs/maintenance. I was left responsible for the horses while to owner was away for weeks at a time.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I have a strong attention to detail whether that’s how straight the clipping lines are or how tidy the bedding in the stable is but more importantly i’m very focused on how i ride my horse and i have taken a lot of time and practice to make sure i have the skills to get the best outcome from the ride so the horse feels confident enjoys what they do.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

That the horses are also part of the team and how every ride can be different.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I used to be good at putting things off a little bit and saying i would just do it later, but more recently i have really focused on sticking to a time frame that i have previously given for the task and that has improved my overall routines a lot and now i love having a routine however there is always more space within that to improve.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m not just applying for a job, i genuinely love being around the horses and i enjoy the process it takes to improve with them. I think that all rough days are worth it for how rewarding it can be.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

Experience in the higher levels of the equestrian world and to get involved out of my comfort zone. I also would like to start my couching qualifications.

• Do you need accommodation?

No.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

No.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

My own horse however i have friends and family involved to help.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

1st October-10th October 2024.
