Experience with Horses
I have been involved with horses for over 40 years, starting out in a riding school as a 6 year old then progressing to having my own pony, going through pony club, attaining my B test at the age of 15. From the age of 17 I have had various jobs within the equine industry as a groom/rider in Hunting/event yards, Instructor/rider/groom and travel to Australia. In Australia I gained a lot of experience working with state champion show horses. I was also involved with the thoroughbred side of my first work placement which involved yearling prep, pre training racehorses and quarantine of horses travelling abroad. My second placement was as the home groom for a top level showjumper.
I completed my BHSAI just before I travelled to Australia.
My main sole charge position was for a pony club family, I lived in for 4 years with a year out in Australia in the middle. I then freelanced at the same yard when I started my family.
I had sole responsibility for all aspects of the horses care and management, teaching the children, taking to pony club, school runs, child care as needed and also care of the property in the owners absence.
I have also ran my own small livery-competition yard including our own 2 event horses and coached my own daughter through the pony club, NSEA, and the BE youth system.
Before children, I enjoyed hunting and competing on my own horse, mostly dressage and showjumping with a little bit of eventing.

Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Seeing horses happy and well cared for is what I find most rewarding. I love the challenge and variation of working with horses as well as it keeps me fit and outside.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am always seeking to improve my understanding of how to achieve the very best with all aspects of horse care and training. From biomechanics, psychology, flat, jump training through to nutrition; I am always open to new ways and techniques in order to improve.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I pride myself in having a very ‘can do’ attitude and I think my life experiences have taught me to be able to cope, and that I can cope in all circumstances. Even in challenging circumstances, I feel that I always come up smiling, maybe with a few hairs out of place, but still smiling!
Highly efficient, respectful and private.
