I grew up as a child with horses and was lucky enough the own my own horses from a young age, I left school at 16 and went into an apprenticeship at a riding school teaching clients of all ages to ride including begginer riders, RDA riders and pony club to C test level. After 5 years at the riding school I moved jobs to a college where I currently work as a practical coach and yard manager as well as teaching adult evening lessons.
I have gained extensive experience in the welfare and management requirements of a range of horses, from competition horses, riding school horses and older equines. I spent a few months volunteering in Canada in 2022 where I had practice in western riding and learnt the different disaplines of western riding. I focus on the individual needs of each horse in my care in my current role on a busy educational equine centre, I hold responsibility for overseeing the day to day care and welfare of up to 30 horses. Working in charge of the yard in an education and training facility my responsibilities include providing individual feeding, exercise and management plans for our horses to ensure equine welfare is at the forefront of our operation at all times.
I work closely along side another member of CSA and an apprentice to ensure a safe environment is maintained and all policies and procedures are followed.
I am confident in handling a range of horses from young-stock to competition horses. The responsibilities of my role requires flexibility and commitment and the ability to work extended or unsocial hour to provide flexibility to support 24 hour care to an unwell horse or unexpected yard event.
I had my own horse who I previously competed in cross country and ridden showing until I unfortunately lost him earlier in the year. I also have 1 dog and several chickens as well as volunteering on a small hold farm with cows, sheeps, pigs and turkeys.
I have taken responsibility for training, developing and rehabilitating horses for our business when required, we work closely with the blue cross and I have helped with these horses to find new homes suited to their needs. I work closely with other key professionals such as farrier, veterinarian, physiotherapist and saddle fitters, dentists etc.
I have some experience in organising and hosting shows and clinics and have developed skills in liaising with contacts such as BHS, Pony club and ABRS members.
My role includes organising and presenting lectures, practical demonstrations, providing teachings and talks, arranging trips to help our students consolidate their learning experience.
In addition to the above I am committed to continued professional development and have completed first aid, safeguaring and health and safety / risk assessment training.
Key Skills
I am confident and well practiced in presenting horses, predominantly for BHS and industry exams, but also turning out horses for competitions such as showjumping, ridden and in hand showing. I also have responsibility in everyday presentation and maintenance of horses, such as clipping, pulling manes and tails, trimming as required, bandaging and tacking up for riding and lunging with a range of equipment.
