Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

For the past year I’ve been doing freelance jobs, like retraining race horses, giving riding lessons, organised a horse show for a charity event with my horses and I visit other stables to teach. Please refer to my CV for detailed information of my previous work experience.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I’m very confident in straightening horses, connecting them and having them more supple. I have experience schooling horses of different capabilities & physical types. I like to have horses assigned to me that I have to work them into a better version of them, this sort of job makes me feel accomplished and proud to look back and see the changes that they have gone through.

I’m skilled making adverts for sales, brochures, pamphlets and other graphic jobs, connected to the equine industry.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

When I feel a horse changing with time because of work. It’s very gratifying for me.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I’m constantly working on improving my body control and core strength. Always looking for continuous improvement.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I will always have the horses in my best interest and as a priority. The idea that horses can only be ridden by one person is very outdated and unusual for me so I strongly believe in “easy riding”, one that can be performed by any person of any age.

Regarding other jobs around the yard, I’m a perfectionist in everything I do so I always search to have that high-standard look around the yard.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I’d like to have the chance to teach people or horses, using Biomechanics and principals of traditional Portuguese riding mixed with German.

• Do you need accommodation?

Not necessarily if the salary is enough to live out comfortably. Live in is a possibility if it fits my situation.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have 3 Lusitano Horses that I own and must go with me anywhere I go. They’re my pride and joy and if they can’t be stabled at my workplace, then I must have a yard near with good enough conditions for them. Everything I do is for them.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I do freelance coaching as an approved Working Equitation Instructor by BWE (British Working Equitation Association), and I have a few steady clients that come to me or I go to them.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

Only holidays I usually have planned are in November each year, to visit the National Horse Fair in my home country (Portugal)
