Experience with Horses

I have owned horses for 15/20yrs, and have spent about 6yrs of this buying, producing and selling horses.

I take a lot of pride in turning horses out well, and really enjoy doing this. As well as presenting horses to potential customers.

I have worked part time on an International Dressage Yard, where i was solely responsible for 9 horses, which included youngstock, stallions and competition horses. My job role here included mucking out, hay, feeds, tidying the yard, tack cleaning, getting horses reading for owners/clients, lunging, hacking and general horse care.

I have competed up to Discovery (1m BS Showjumping) on my own horses, and still enjoy producing the young ones. I am a very confident rider on the flat and feel confident to say i am able to get a good tune out of most horses. I would prefer to stick to riding on the flat, if there was an option of riding within the role, however wouldn’t turn down jumping under instruction.

I am happy to work independently as well as part of a team, and can use my own initiative to know what needs to be done around the yard. I am understanding that all horses have their own individual needs and am alert enough to keep an eye on the horses own usual habits.

I am good under pressure and in panic situations, which sometimes do happen with horses, and am able to ‘pause’ in those situations without reacting off adrenaline, in order to think logically and in everyone’s best interests.

Strengths and Weaknesses

I think most of my strengths have been listed above. The main thing i would like to work on is my confidence when jumping, having had a bad experience with my previous horse, who was a serial stopper, so that has effected my confidence.

Im also very good at admitting ownership if I have done something wrong, and wouldn’t let it go a miss.

I have a great sense of humour, enjoy some fun, but am able to keep a work/life balance!

Requirements

I am based in Sittingbourne, Kent, UK, so would require accommodation if further afield. Am happy to travel anywhere, i don’t get home sick!!!

I do have a dog, small (5kg), and would love it if he could join me somewhere, however i’m totally aware that this isn’t always possible and wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me, as my parents are very accommodating and would continue to care for him, he’s not a keen ‘yard dog’ and would spend most of his day sleeping on the sofa anyway!!

I do also have a 3yo gelding and 2yo filly, who again, i’d love to bring along with me, however totally understand that this isn’t always possible, and again wouldn’t be a deal breaker. I have ownership of land already, where they can spend their time being horses.

I do have a 4 day holiday already booked during the first week of October 2025.
