Experience with Horses

The past 12 years in the horse industry has allowed me to gain experience ranging from equine courses such as:

SAEF Welfare Course, Penbritte Horse Health, Penbritte Course Walk & Building, Equine Veterinary Course,
Equine Fascia & Tremor Release Module 1, Equine Fascia & Tremor Release Module 2, all the way to the competition ring: Represented South Africa in Shongweni, Namibia and Zimbabwe in Eventing; SA Eventing Junior Champion ranking 1st; Victrix ludorum Sedibeng High School;
Top Junior rider at Gauteng for High School SANESA; Top Amateur League on two of my horses; Sedibeng Regional colours Equitation; Dressage and Show Jumping (Representing Gauteng team at the Gauteng Finals); Gauteng Provincial School colours for Equitation, Dressage and Show Jumping (Representing Gauteng team at a National Championship); Equitation, Dressage and Show Jumping (Representing Gauteng team at the Gauteng Finals); Gauteng Teams for Stadium Eventing Gauteng team at a National Championship.

I’ve gained experience in young horse, stallion handling and riding, lunging. long reining, clipping and all of the basic grooming requirements.

 

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My key skills comprise of preferably working alone but also working with others, riding and handling of young horses and stallions (where it is beneficial to be physically slightly stronger). I am a very calm yet assertive person therefore it comes in handy with horses. I am someone who is good at de-escalating a stressful situation when needed. I am pretty good at helping where needed regarding equine and non-equine activities.

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Horses can be challenging but I most enjoy how rewarding horses can be especially younger horses when one can sit back and realise the progress made. I enjoy that horses require a partnership with humans to be able to achieve the results through equal contribution by the horse and the human towards the end goal. I would much rather prefer a night in the barn than going out and horses make the ideal companion, therefore.

 

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my turning out for shows, handling and riding of young horses, stallions and general riding skills. I would also like to improve my competitiveness to the levels abroad as I have competed up to 2* Eventing in South Africa. I am only certified to AI cattle, and I would like to further expand my skills into horses.

 

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I believe an employer should consider me because of my experience and work ethic. I bring determination, dedication and passion that drives me to put in my best efforts every day. I am good team player, adaptable to new challenges and always willing to learn and grow into the best version possible for my benefit and the employer’s. I am someone who puts my mind to something and will do my utmost best to attain the goal in mind.

 

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to be a groom (home and competition) as well as rider and gain more experience with handling and riding young horses and I would like to further establish my eventing career.

Completion of BSc degree in 2025
