Experience with Horses

I have been riding non stop for the last 7 years and have had my own horses since 2018. I have experience on various horse yards doing either pony club, volunteering, working, or riding lessons. I spent 6 months at a top-end equine school to gain confidence and knowledge of the industry first hand. I have experience working with horses from 6am till 6 pm and sometimes later, so i am not shy of hard work, and i understand the industry and that the hours are not set nor sociable most times. Most recently since leaving education, i have worked in two equine settings, one being a Pony Club Centre, where i was working with horses of all levels from riding school types, to Stallions and some work with foals and brood mares. I have first hand experience in leading small groups of children during lessons, some teaching experience whilst supervised and gained an understanding of basic course building and cross country riding. I learned social skills within this role, dealing with clients and students alike, and was able to effectivley and efficiently muck out, feed, groom, excersise and lunge a variety of different horses daily. The job i am in at present i work with top-level show horses which are given to my boss for producing to gain entry to top shows such as HOYS & Royal Internationl. Alongside all the above, i have gained more responsibility in this job and have regularly had to step up and run the yard on my own due to my boss being away with horses at shows etc. I have improved my skills in dealing with clients of very expensive horses, and am able to speak to them and show them around our yard with confidence. My riding has improved a great deal due to my boss giving me regular lessons on my own horse. I have a great passion for horses and want to learn all i can throughout my career, and i hope for more routes of progression as my work experience grows and my skills improve.

Key Skills

I can work alone or within a team. I can prepare a horse for a show, and handle a variety of different types of horses from slow plod alongs, to firey and fresh youngsters. Running the yard by myself and making decisions about what is best for which horse. Organisational skills. Managing a small team of stable hands.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy how rewarding the job can be, watching a horse’s progression and being there from start to when they end up winning a competition is very satisfying.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I believe there is always room for improvement but right now i would to work on other skills such as plaiting and clipping for example

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

My work ethic is second to none. I always put in 110% in my jobs, as i enjoy the satisfaction i get knowing that i have completed the job even if that means staying longer in order to do that. I am reliable, and almost never take any time off unless i have to. I am loyal and dedicated and i am very mature and responsible for my age. I have a real passion for horses and i enjoy being given opportunities to progress and to achieve mine and my employers goals. I am thorough and organised to a T, and i take pride in the cleanliness of the yard! I take a serious role in making sure this happens.
