Experience with Horses

I am currently a self employed freelance rider and coach. I have evented on my self produced horse up to FEI 2* level and intermediate as well as having competitive experience on my own and clients horses up to BD advanced medium and BS foxhunter level. I have backed and produced my own current horse and been involved in the backing and producing of many other young horses. I am experienced riding fit competition horses and good at dealing with training issues that may arise.

I can also lunge and long rein to a high standard to help improve way of going, as part of a fitness/ rehabilitation regime or to add variety to work.

I have independently run my own team of horses on my small private yard since the age of 18, so I am proficient in all aspects of horse management including the admin side of things and the day to day running of a yard.

I hold my A test which i passed with distinction and my UKCC Level 3 coaching qualification so I have a broad understanding and depth of knowledge to help either in the saddle or on the ground as a coach to all ages and abilities.

Key Skills

Excellent at working alone as sole charge or part of a team.

HGV license holder.

Ability to work with riders towards goals.

Good hands on knowledge and experience with international and fei rules.

Superb ability to engage with children having taught at many pony club camps.

Good time management and scheduling abilities to operate a successful freelance business.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

For me I love the variety that comes through working with horses and the fact that no two days and no two horses are the same. I get a huge buzz out of figuring out what makes a horse tick or seeing the moment when  a rider I’m coaching suddenly gets ‘it’ whatever we are doing. I am also an outdoors person so enjoy being up and about doing practical as well as intellectual tasks.

• Is there anything you would like to improve?

Having always been self employed I would now like to improve my ability to work as part of a team in a management role as I feel my background as freelancer gives me a unique insight into how teams operate.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am extremely driven, which is proven by my current successful business as a freelancer which I have built up over the past 4 years. I have top level competitive experience in all the main disciplines which gives me a strong understanding of the process and management it takes to get horses there. I have an armoury of qualifications under my belt which I have worked hard to achieve alongside working fulltime.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I am ready to settle into a more permanent role, in either a management, senior coach or rider capacity.

• Do you need accommodation?

Depends on the role and location.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

Ideally one small well behaved dog. Depending on role and location one horse.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

No.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No.
