Experience with Horses:
I have gained a solid foundation in dressage and equine care through both practical experience and formal qualifications. I have successfully completed the EQASA Module 1-4 qualifications, which have equipped me with knowledge in stable management, equine care, and general horsemanship. In addition to this, I have been training consistently in dressage and competing at local events, developing my skills in both riding and horse management.
Looking ahead, my primary goal is to become an elite international dressage rider, competing at the highest levels, including the Olympic Games. To support this, I am seeking a paid working student or rider assistant role where I can work closely with experienced trainers, improve my riding under expert guidance, and contribute to the daily running of a professional stable. I am also focused on gaining further qualifications, particularly in the British Horse Society pathway, to deepen my understanding of equine management and professional training.
Ultimately, I aim to learn from the best in the industry, gaining exposure to competition environments and training at an international standard, while continuously improving my own riding and horsemanship.
Key Skills:
-
Dressage Riding & Training: I have strong skills in dressage training, including flatwork and competition preparation. I am particularly good at improving horses’ movement, focusing on rhythm, balance, and precision. I am comfortable working with horses at various levels, from young horses to advanced dressage horses.
-
Handling & Riding Young Horses: I am confident in starting young horses and working with green or unbroken horses. I can effectively build their confidence and help them progress in their training through careful, consistent groundwork and riding.
-
Stable Management & Horse Care: I am skilled in stable management, including mucking out, feeding, and general care. I can confidently look after horses in all aspects of their daily care, ensuring their environment is clean, safe, and comfortable.
-
Competition Preparation & Turnout: I have experience in turning out horses for shows, ensuring they look their best with attention to detail in plaiting, clipping, grooming, and presentation. I also assist with the preparation of horses for dressage events, including warm-ups and keeping horses calm and focused before competitions.
-
Handling Stallions: I am comfortable handling stallions and other difficult horses, ensuring they are managed safely and with respect. My calm and confident approach helps me maintain control in potentially challenging situations.
-
Non-Equine Skills: In addition to my equine skills, I am highly organized, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team. I am also skilled in time management, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I absolutely love the connection I form with each horse, especially the opportunity to develop their skills and see them progress in their training. Dressage is an art form to me, and I enjoy the challenge of refining the subtle movements and precision needed to reach higher levels of performance. The bond between horse and rider is incredibly rewarding, and I find joy in working with horses at all stages of their training, whether it’s starting a young horse or fine-tuning an advanced competitor.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to continue improving my competition strategy and mental preparation for high-pressure events. I feel that the mental aspect of dressage is just as important as the physical, and I am working to develop stronger focus and confidence under pressure. I believe that you dont ever stop learning, so i am looking forward to become the best version of myself.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I bring a strong work ethic, dedication, and a true passion for horses. I’m committed to continuously learning and improving, both as a rider and in my overall equine knowledge. My EQASA qualifications and experience in stable management, along with my drive to pursue my goals of becoming an elite dressage rider, demonstrate my long-term commitment to the equine industry. I am a team player, willing to contribute wherever needed, but I am also self-motivated and able to work independently. My eagerness to learn from top-level trainers and contribute to the success of the horses I work with sets me apart as a valuable addition to any team.
Requirements:
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
In my next job, I am eager to gain further experience in high-level dressage training and to learn from top professionals in the field. I would like to develop my skills under expert guidance, refine my competition strategy, and continue working towards my dream of becoming a international rider. I am particularly interested in gaining exposure to competition environments and helping to prepare horses for top-level shows. Additionally, I would love to contribute to the smooth operation of a professional stable, learning the ins and outs of elite horse care and stable management. Ultimately, I hope to grow both as a rider and a professional in the equine industry.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes, I would require accommodation as I will be relocating from South Africa to the UK in early 2026. I am open to discussing living arrangements that are available with the position, whether it’s on-site or nearby, to ensure I am fully immersed in the role and able to contribute to the the team.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
At this stage, I do not plan to bring any animals with me. I am focused on the opportunity to train and work with the horses at the stable, and I am open to riding and caring for any horses available at the facility. If the need arises in the future, I would consider bringing my own horse, but for now, I am fully committed to immersing myself in the horses already under your care.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
At the moment, my primary commitment is completing my final year of high school (Grade 12), which I am focused on finishing in the coming months. Once I graduate, I am fully committed to pursuing my career in dressage and relocating to the UK. I do not have any other ongoing commitments that would interfere with the job or my work at the stable.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
I do not have any holidays booked at this time. My focus is on my studies and preparing for the transition to the UK. Once I relocate, I am ready to fully commit to the role and any responsibilities it entails.
