Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked with horses for over a decade in a range of settings, from livery yards, to grooming at competitions, and rehabbing horses. I have taken sole charge of yards, responsible for all daily tasks, maintaining standards and making sure horses are happy and healthy and reporting back to their owners.

I have competed in grassroots eventing and up to Elementary dressage. I aim to work with horses in a compassionate manor, understanding their biomechanics, temperament and how they try to tell you things.

I am looking to expand my professional skills in an equine job through caring for other peoples’ horses as if they were my own while wanting to expand my qualifications through the BHS stages.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I work well on my own, and will report back to owners on their horses. I am detail-oriented, trying to notice any small changes to a horses’ demeanor or surroundings to allow for seamless support for the animal and notice anything that may lead to an issue before it becomes one.

I am very experienced in rehabbing horses, analysing their change in biomechanics and producing plans of management and exercise to support them while gaining strength. I work well in a team, supporting vets, farriers, physios and owners to allow for maximum level of support for the animal.

I have experience handling and managing fit event horses, ex-racehorses, and young horses. I have broken horses in in the past and greatly enjoy bringing on youngsters, giving them the best introduction into their ridden career in a compassionate and kind manner.

I am always professional, aiming to keep to a strict schedule whether at competition or at home, to allow for a reliable setting for both animals and their owners, while also having the freedom to give the extra support often needed with horses. They do not run to our timetable, and I am adaptable to suit their needs.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy working on a one-to-one basis with horses, learning them inside and out. I greatly enjoy learning their personality and adapting their management and exercise routines to suit them. I enjoy giving this personalised and compassionate approach to each animal to allow them to thrive, whether that in competition or at home.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to gain more experience in turning horses out to competition standard. I have not competed or groomed for competitions in the last few years and wish to improve my turning out skills. I can clip, bath, plait to a good standard. I wish to improve the more subtle skills that give horses the ‘wow factor’ when competing.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I will be engaged and care for their horses like they are my own. I am very detail-oriented and would thrive in a smaller yard setting where I can get to know the horses and owners on a personal level. I wish to support the owner and horse to produce the results they wish, whether that in competition, training or rehabilitation and have a sympathetic mindset to training. I wish to gain experience while in my personal time, gaining qualifications through BHS stages, aiming to gain my stages in coaching.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to gain more experience in managing a yard. I believe I would be well suited to a smaller yard, where individual requirements for each horse are better maintained.

• Do you need accommodation?

Accommodation would be a bonus but is not required.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have a small cat and a pony. Provision for both would be a bonus but not essential.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I have a current sales assistant job that requires a months notice to be given.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

No.
