Experience with Horses

I have hands-on experience with horses, particularly in stable and racing yard environments, having worked at Adam Nicol Racing Yard in Seahouses.  Here I mucked out stables, groomed and tacked up horses, assisted with feeding and exercising racehorses, and ensured tack and stable areas were kept clean. I also gained valuable skills in horse handling and equine care during my Animal Nursing Assistant course at Kirkley Hall College.

I’m confident around both young and fit competition horses, and I take pride in maintaining high standards of care and stable hygiene.

Key Skills

  • Confident handling and exercising horses, including racehorses
  • Mucking out, grooming, tacking up, feeding and watering
  • Comfortable working alone or as part of a team
  • Quick learner with a calm, focused approach
  • Reliable and efficient in a fast-paced yard
  • Non-equine: animal nursing care, veterinary assistant duties, lambing experience, and general farm work

Strengths and Weaknesses

What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love the routine and responsibility that comes with caring for horses. I enjoy building trust with them, and I find grooming and general stable care particularly rewarding.

Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to get more experience working with foals or broodmares, as it’s an area I haven’t yet explored.

Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m hardworking, reliable, and truly passionate about animal care. I’ve proven my dedication through both work and voluntary roles, from racing yards to veterinary placements. I adapt quickly, work well under pressure, and always go the extra mile to ensure high standards.
