Experience with Horses
I have attached my CV but please rest assured that although my CV does not boast equine experience I have lived a lifetime with horses. At aged 3 I began riding at a school in Bournemouth, shortly after this my family relocated to Shaftesbury with the Henderson’s on Cherry Orchard Farm. This was a hunting yard/normal farm, I learnt to event in showjumping and junior jockey racing at Pony Club’s.
Later on in life in my early teens and living back in Bournemouth I began volunteering at Dudmore Farm Riding School, aged 12-16 before moving onto working in another field. Since then, I have volunteered/shared a variety of pony’s and horses from New Forest Pony’s, to Thoroughbreds, and all in between.
I currently ride multiple horses on a freelance basis (including Thoroughbreds, maxi cob, warmblood and Irish draught), the riding of these in particular involve keeping fitness levels high, clinics, travelling to local gallops, lunging, free reigning, hacks etc. Including the general maintenance on the yards and care for the horses them selves. They range in age from 6 to 22.
I would love a career in the equestrian sector and would adore the opportunity to work and expand my knowledge alongside your current team.
I can confirm I am hard working, have excellent communication skills and am driven to exceed in any task and any weather. This I feel is shown by my CV having worked in sectors such as Policing, Crown Court and Garages.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
the quiet understanding between a human and animal, the feeling caused by creating a bond, trust and respect equally. The freedom and sense of acheivement that comes with horses. Having worked in high stress environments where adrenaline is a key aspect, nothing comes close to the feeling of being in horse back.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
My general riding style, focus on fast paced areas and jumping.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am confident and gentle. I have a calm energy that shows through the relationships and bonds I make with the animals I care for.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
– Polo, eventing, show jumping, p2p/hunter chaser, foal/stud.
I wish to gain experience working on a yard that works in some form of sport, I have experience in livery yards and riding schools, but enjoy the thrill of sporting and would enjoy expanding my knowledge in those areas.
Preferably Polo. I attended a Professional Polo Yard at the beginning of the year in Gloucestershire. I spent a week there volunteering to expand my knowledge. My involvement whilst there was tacking and untacking ponies in prep for lessons, chukkas and exercise sets, operating the walker, clipping and tying up tails, bandaging legs, riding sets (ride one, lead one + style), maintaining field and stable cleanliness, feed and hay delivery to fields, rugs on/off and bathing the ponies post game. This was all done to a high standard and really peaked my interest specifically in polo.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes. This is dependant on distance from my current home address and the potential salary I could expect.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have 2 dogs. A 4yo Border Collie and a 2yo German Shepherd.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
I currently run my own freelancing business, which is predominantly riding/training/desensitising large spooky horses, alongside providing illness/injury cover for riders who cannot ride.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
I am due to go on holiday July 27th for around 10 days. Current date to return is set as 8th August.
