Experience with Horses
I have over 10 years of riding experience and a strong educational background in equine care and management. My qualifications include:
- EQL Level 2 in Horse Care
- City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Equine Management
- City & Guilds Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management
In addition to my formal training, I have gained hands-on experience through both voluntary and professional work. I have volunteered at a riding school and am currently employed at a busy livery yard, where I manage a variety of day-to-day responsibilities to a high standard.
I have experience handling a wide range of horses, from riding school horses to competition-fit horses, and I am confident working with horses of varying temperaments and needs.
I am a reliable and dedicated individual who works well both independently and as part of a team in busy yard environments.
- Key Skills
My skills include:
-
- Mucking out and stable maintenance
- Feeding, watering, and implementing daily care routines
- Turning out and bringing in horses from the field
- Tacking up and untacking for both schooling and competition
- Conducting routine health checks and administering basic equine first aid
- Supporting ridden work including flatwork, lessons, and hacking
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is the connection you build through daily care and handling. I love being part of their routine and helping them feel comfortable, safe, and healthy. Whether it’s grooming, mucking out, riding, or simply being around them, I find every moment rewarding. Horses have such individual personalities, and I enjoy learning how to work with each one in a way that suits their needs.
One of my key strengths is my dedication and attention to detail—I always make sure each horse is looked after to the highest standard. I’m also calm, patient, and confident when handling horses, whether they’re young, nervous, or competition-fit.
As for a weakness, I can sometimes be too self-critical, especially when I’m learning something new or trying to get everything perfect. But I use that as motivation to keep improving and to always give my best.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
A key area I’m looking to develop further is my riding ability, overall equine knowledge, and competition turnout skills. I’m very eager to learn and grow in these areas and am actively seeking opportunities that will help me improve and contribute more confidently in a competitive or professional setting.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I bring not only solid qualifications and hands-on experience, but also genuine passion and commitment to working with horses. I hold Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in horse care and equine management, and I’ve gained practical experience through both volunteering at a riding school and currently working on a busy livery yard. I’m confident handling a wide range of horses—from riding school types to competition-fit—and I consistently maintain high standards in all aspects of horse care.
What sets me apart is my strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn. I don’t just want to do the job—I want to keep improving and contributing more every day. I’m particularly eager to develop my riding skills, equine knowledge, and competition turnout experience, and I’m always looking for ways to grow both personally and professionally. I’m reliable, hardworking, and genuinely care about the horses I work with, and I believe that kind of passion is something you can’t teach.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
In my next job, I would like to continue building on the skills I already have while gaining more experience in areas I’m passionate about—especially improving my riding, expanding my knowledge of horse care and management, and developing my competition turnout skills. I’m really keen to work in an environment where I can learn from experienced professionals and take on new responsibilities, whether that’s schooling different types of horses, supporting at shows, or helping manage the day-to-day running of a busy yard. I’m committed to growing within the equine industry and would really value the opportunity to be part of a team that encourages learning, hard work, and high standards of care.
