Job Description
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has played a major role in the development of equestrian sport in Hong Kong establishing 3 public riding schools and the Beas River Equestrian Centre (BREC).
BREC is the largest riding facility in Hong Kong, with stabling for 257 horses. It offers world class facilities including a riding school, livery yard, competition centre, and retired racehorse retraining unit. The Beas River Riding School (BRRS) is a BHS approved centre providing services to HKJC members and other permitted users, offering the most extensive range of equestrian facilities in Hong Kong.
As a Senior Equestrian Coach, you will play a key role in developing our coaching programme, supporting riders from beginner to elite levels. You will be instrumental in lesson planning, staff mentorship, and competition preparation, supporting rider progression in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver quality coaching services to customers
- Provide excellent coaching services to members (adults and children) including private and group ridden lessons, stable management and simulator based sessions.
- Lesson planning and competition preparation
- Develop youth programmes for identifying and developing talent
- Training and mentorship of staff and students training for BHS assessments
Support day to day operations
- Planning and implementation of weekly schooling & training plans for BRRS horses and ponies
- Allocation of BRRS horse and ponies for lessons, monitoring utilisation to ensure horse welfare
- Regular communication with the coaching team and stable staff to ensure appropriate management of horses and ponies.
- Daily interaction with vets and farriers
- Schooling of BRRS and livery horses and ponies to maintain physical well-being and positive behaviours
Minimum Requirements
- The job holder must have acquired BHS Stage 4 Complete with a minimum of 9 years proven work experience
- Candidates with BHS Stage 3 Complete with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience may be considered for an Equestrian Coach role
- Experience of coaching riders of all ages and levels from introductory to medium levels, individual and groups
- Knowledge of training methods for schooling a variety of horses both under saddle and from the ground; previous experience of working with thoroughbreds would be an advantage
- Preferably a fluent speaker of English; some understanding of Cantonese will be an advantage but not essential
- Have knowledge of child protection and safeguarding protocols and hold a current background check
- be a holder of first aid certificate
