Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I’ve worked with horses of all ages from young, energetic horses to older ones needing a gentler approach and I adapt my care depending on their needs. I’m confident in basic riding, grooming, and mucking out, and I understand the importance of keeping horses comfortable, healthy, and calm. Whether it’s a daily routine or responding to changes in their behavior, I’m hands-on and fully engaged.

On top of my practical equine skills, I also bring strong non-equine abilities that make me a valuable team member. I’m a dedicated team player who communicates clearly and works well with people at all levels. I stay calm under pressure and can think quickly to solve problems, whether it’s a change in the schedule or a horse needing urgent attention.

Altogether, I combine a strong work ethic, good horse sense, and a positive attitude and I’m always open to learning and growing in the role.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most about working with horses is the bond you build with them over time. I love learning their personalities, how each one has their own quirks and preferences and being able to care for them in a way that makes them feel safe, calm, and happy. I find it incredibly rewarding to be part of their daily routine, whether it’s grooming, feeding, or just being there to notice when something’s off.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?Improving confidence with difficult or nervous horses. Understanding horses body language and behaviour more deeply. Also Spotting subtle signs of colic, lameness, or infection earlier.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’ve spent the last 3 to 4 years looking after horses, and during that time I’ve developed a strong foundation in daily horse care from feeding and grooming to mucking out and recognising early signs of illness or discomfort. While I’m still working on improving my riding, my real strength lies in how much I genuinely care for the horses’ wellbeing. I’m very observant, patient, and always put the horse’s needs first, whether that means adjusting a routine to help a nervous horse settle or staying late to ensure everything is safe and clean.

I understand how important consistency, calmness, and attention to detail are when caring for horses, and I bring all of that to my work every day. I may not be the most experienced rider yet, but I make up for it with a strong work ethic, reliability, and a true passion for the animals. I’m eager to keep learning and grow in a role where I can contribute meaningfully to a team

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

In my next equine job, I’d really like to keep building on the hands-on experience I’ve already gained, especially with different types of horses and yard environments. I’m looking for a place where I can take on more responsibility, deepen my confidence in riding, and learn from more experienced team members.

I’m also really focused on improving my understanding of equine health and first aid. I want to be someone who can spot small issues before they become big problems.

Most importantly, I’d love to be part of a professional, supportive team where I can keep learning, contribute to high standards of care, and grow into a stronger all rounded  horse person.
