Experience with Horses
I’ve been riding at my local riding school since I was 7 and started helping their on weekends at the age of 9. I have been volunteering at my local RDA centre since I was 12 where I have spent lots of time helping teach kids to ride and adapting to make it an enjoyable and accessible experience for everyone. I then spent two years at Hartpury college doing a level 3 extended diploma in equine management. Alongside that I worked as a groom at a local livery yard when I was home for the holidays gaining experience working with schooling liveries and hunt horses. For the past year I have had a loan pony who I’ve been helping to produce and turn into a little turbo cob yet safe for his owners niece to ride. I have recently spent three months working as a groom at a horse rescue and rehab centre in South Africa. I spent lots of time being a back up guide taking beginner clients on the open beach and teaching them how to ride. I also helped to introduce new horses to the beach and doing lots of ground work with them which was a great learning experience for me as well.
Key Skills
My key skills are I can work either individually or as part of a team. I have good time management and communication skills. I have a good work ethic and like to learn new things.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
The thing I enjoy most about working with horses is seeing the I did it moments whether that’s seeing a 6 year old get rising trot for the first time or teaching someone to jump for the first time. Or even when I’m riding and you can see the improvements in the horse or you teach them a new skill and knowing that their owner is going to be so excited to see it.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
One key skill I don’t have is being able to lunge or long rein this is something I would love to learn. I also am not the most confident working with more higher strung horses, I’m happy to give it a go but I would love to gain more confidence.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I’ve got experience working at lots of different equestrian places giving me a unique set of skills where I’ve learnt lots of things from lots of different people with different areas of expertise. I’m hard working and have always wanted to be able to teach people to do what I love.
