I finished Hartpury College in June and I am looking to work on a professional yard. I have just received my results: Distinction* Distinction* Distinction in the Level 3 Diploma in Equine Management.
I have previously worked on a number of livery yards and worked as a Barn Manager/Mentor for the last two years at Hartpury. I have handled all sorts of horses on various private and livery yards since the age of 12, including youngstock, competition and retired horses. I am used to riding a range of horses with various temperaments and stages of breaking and schooling. I have two of my own horses, a semi-retired Irish Sports Horse and an eventer, English Sports Horse.
Over the 7-8 years, I’ve worked with and ridden everything from spicy ex-racers to event horses. I also have experience of rehabbing horses with lameness, kissing spine, gastric ulcers, hock injections, field injuries, hoof abscesses etc. and I’ve worked closely with vets, farriers, physios, chiropractors and cranial osteopaths to support the best outcomes for the horses in my care.
I am hard-working and a team player with a sense of humour. I recently groomed for a high-level show jumper at the Welsh Masters. I take pride in my work and my stables are always maintained to a high standard.
I am determined to use my equine qualifications and I feel a high-level yard would be the perfect place to apply my knowledge and skills. I would also love the opportunity to bring one of my horses with me.
I am also currently awaiting my driving test.
Key Skills:
- Confident handling/riding young horses
- Grooming at competitions (recent experience at Welsh Masters)
- Rehabbing and managing horses with injuries or medical needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Organised, reliable and confident to work independently when needed
Strengths & Weaknesses:
What I most enjoy about working with horses:
Building bonds with them through daily care, schooling and rehab work and seeing their progress.
Something I’d like to improve:
Further developing my competition grooming experience at higher levels. My own riding skills to compete.
Why employers should consider me above other applicants:
I would like to combine my formal equine management qualifications with real-world experience on busy livery and competition yards. I’m practical, reliable and committed to high standards of horse welfare and yard presentation.
Requirements:
- What I’d like to gain: Experience working on a high-level yard where I can continue learning, especially in competition grooming and advanced horse management.
- Accommodation: Ideally, i’d be looking for accommodation, shared or individual.
- Special requirements for my horse: Just good turnout and daily care, no special medical needs with access to a stable.
- Ongoing commitments: None, other than caring for my own horses.
- Holidays booked: None at the moment.
