Level one Traineeship, August 2023 to Aug 2024 & Volunteer Role – Oct 2022 & Apr 2023; Aug 2024 ongoing

I started helping at Hargate because my stepmum introduced me to horses. At first I was just interested, but then I realised I really enjoy working with them. I asked if I could do work experience, and later I got onto a 12-month traineeship with Stubbing Court Training Centre. I’ve learned:

  • Daily horse care: feeding, mucking out, water, rugs, turning in and out
  • Grooming, hoof picking and handling both ponies and larger horses
  • Building confidence around animals
  • Starting to ride, and learning to be confident on different horses

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

  • Looking after horses, doing practical outdoor work like gardening and landscaping
  • Working independently once I understand the job
  • Following routines and structured tasks
  • Being reliable and turning up on time
  • Willing to learn and keep improving, and learning new tasks quickly

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Being able to work outdoors and work in an industry that I love

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Social skills and being confident around others

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am willing and wanting to work in the equine industry. I love to learn new skills. I am capable and just need someone to take a little time for me to gain confidence around them.
