Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have over 20 years experience around horses, with 19 of those having owned my own horse. I have been to college where I achieved my Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Equine Management, and I have also achieved my FdSc in Equestrian Performance and Coaching. I am very competent in the handling of young and fit horses. I have previously worked as a competition groom. My youngest horse I have owned since being a 3 year old, and I have done all of his training and backed him myself confidently, and I am currently in the process of backing another youngster. I would love a riding career whereby I am helping maintain their fitness and competition standard, as well as also having the chance to compete myself where possible.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am very confident working on my own and can use my own initiative, however I also work well as part of a team and can help train new staff members when required. I have worked as a competition groom previously. I am confident in the handling and riding of young and fit horses. I am very observant in my work and the horse’s health/care is paramount to me.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Most importantly I love being around the horses. But I also like to keep busy.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Although I can do it, I would like to improve my plaiting skills.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I have a lot of experience working with horses, I am very confident/competent around them. I am hard-working and like to be on the go. The horse’s care is my top priority and I always carry out all of my jobs to a high standard; I treat them like my own.
