Objective
To get started right away! To move back into the horse industry also to have a change up from the area I am currently based.
Skills & Abilities
I have the skills and abilities of someone who has worked in the industry for overall almost 20 years. (was seated on my first pony at around 10 minutes old being a home birth).
My skills range from all yard work to field work, round to medication and administration of any medication. Also noticing and helping diagnose injury and using commonsense and experience to prevent whatever injuries I can.
Along with Breaking and Training of a range of breeds, including stallions and 2yo racing breakers, show ponies, Argentinian polo ponies, Hunters, starting eventers etc. Also had the odd call for ‘Dangerous’ youngsters however I tended to find they where just confused and a different route is needed….Below is some about Education…
Freelance for Myself for up to 7 years , covered most of north devonThis ranged from any call out from basic ‘get my hunter fit’ to ‘help me its going to kill me’ to ‘make it go like this’ … This has been within the last 15 years I handed the clients over to the girls helping me so I could go full time |

Deborah Aplin Slou Cottage Polo Team , TauntonFor almost 4 years I have done Debbie’s hunters however after staff got short I started off commuting then went live in to help as sole charge 3 professionals alongside my husband ( a commodore in the navy) wife (building firm) duo. We had 14 in at max and 18 on rotation when hunters came in. Debbie is one of my References.
My most recent job being sole charge home groom to a gentleman who had 6 horses at his second home and as described. We where in a hugely rural area as the closest house to Tarr steps. This made it amazing to ride and exercise and explore. Reigniting my love for it after being in the hospitality and cleaning injuries after an injury 2 years ago. But having worked mainly for the Hunt Janet Ackner is one of my References as she was both racing and hunting and will confirm my yard ability’s. |
|
Also due to OCD I tend to win best turned out both racing and showing, this I am highly proud of as it is these skills my mother and grandfather have passed down through the generations, including what we have taught my nephew.
Education
Bicton Agricultural College, Exeter, Equine Business Management and Veterinary science Masters @ 2/1 4 year course 2010-2015Looking into all areas of the equestrian industry from Business, Behaviour to Veterinary Science and fitness and training.
Along with this I have 12 GCSE’s and 3 A levels, along with a BTEC National Award in Dance to witch I got a Double Distinction having done royal ballet for almost 22 years. |
Communication
I can be trusted to be left and be in contact with whomever I need to be. Along with organizational skills and following a ‘plan’. Having worked on many different yards I learned to communicate with not on educationally challenged, but also the ‘challenging’ owners and their wonderful children. I then decided that the grown-up world of horses was more my flo. Hence enquiring at your yard.
Leadership
I have had to use a variety of leadership skills in general in life but especially in the equestrian industry, if workers of the same team are not on the same page about movements and activities for the day then injury’s, both for the horses and for the workers / riders / my colleagues could occur. I have been lucky enough to have not had to deal with any life threatening injuries on my clock.
Also ensuring if horses need to leave the yard at a certain time that the horses do in fact leave at said time and all equipment is in fact packed with nothing too vital if at all left.
