Future Requirements

  • What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I love training equines through ethical, welfare-lead training methods. Getting to see them thrive is so rewarding, and being a part of that will always be a privilege. I enjoy providing the daily care for equines too, such as mucking out and grooming.

  • Do you need accommodation?

Not necessarily – if the job is within 25 miles from home then no accommodation is required.

  • Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

As above, if the job is within 25 miles from home my horses can stay at home too. However, if moving then 24/7 turnout is essential!

  • Do you have any ongoing commitments?

My own equines.

  • Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

One week in July.

Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked on a private yard, a riding school-livery yard, completed work placements as part of my degree, and also worked at an equine veterinary hospital. Currently I am working at a large equine charity.

In previous roles I have worked with a whole range of equines, from foals to stallions. In my current role again I work with equines of all types, with Learning Theory underpinning the way in which me and my team work with these wonderful animals. In this role I have helped equines work through behavioural concerns, for example fears of vets or farriers, general handling and learning to trust people again.

I have experience working sole charge, and also as part of small and large teams.

I have ridden since I was 4 years old, learning to ride at a local riding school and later progressing to riding my instructor’s horses. I’ve worked with youngsters (my own horses included), schoolmasters, and everything in between.

I love flatwork and jumping, and really love going out for hacks and exploring new routes with my horses. I have competed in unaffiliated showing and showjumping prior to going to university. I am not a competitive rider, but do enjoy the odd show here and there, and aim to get out and about with my horses later in the year.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I have experience handling a wide range of equines of all shapes, sizes and ages in a gentle, empathetic manner. From foals to stallions, and everything in between – including those with little handling and those learning to trust again.

I have a strong interest in equine behaviour and welfare, and using science-backed training to work with equines in a kind, ethical way.

I am reliable, trustworthy, and can work quickly and efficiently, all while keeping to high standards.

I also love being organized, which comes in very useful. I have a strong work ethic, and can be depended on to do a thorough job.

I love learning new things, and am always up for a challenge. Even if I have limited experience in an area, I’m always enthusiastic about giving things a go!

Strengths and Weaknesses

  • What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Being able to be a positive addition to their lives, and getting to see them thrive and flourish at any stage of their life! They are such kind, intelligent and empathetic animals, and I feel like often they teach me so much more than I could ever teach them.

  • Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I love opportunities to further improve the skills I already have, and love learning new things. I am also always up for a challenge. Even if I have limited experience in an area, I’m always enthusiastic about giving things a go!

  • Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am a reliable, hard-working individual, and no matter the weather will be there for the equines. I bring a calm, kind and trustworthy approach to every equine that I work with, and always prioritise their welfare and physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. When it comes to how I interact with equines, both my handling and training use Learning Theory as a basis, which helps me to create clear, consistent communication that aids in reducing stress, helps build confidence, and also supports long-term positive behaviour. This allows for the equine to feel safe and understood not only in training, but in daily handling and through usual husbandry tasks.
