Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I grew up around my mothers competition and livery yard and my father who is a large animal vet so my passion for animals and horses started from a very young age. I’ve owned and competed horses for most of my adult life and ran a livery yard in Cornwall for the last 10 years as well as offering freelance services including holiday cover, general yard work, schooling and groundwork with horses. I’ve worked on a racing yard, eventing yard, livery yards and at a trekking holiday centre. At home, I’ve rehabbed my own horse and enjoyed the process alongside working with professionals.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am good at spotting things with horses – ailments and lameness, I am kind and compassionate when working with horses and empathetic to their needs. I enjoy treating them as horses in the most natural way we can by domesticating them, I find it rewarding watching them learn and grown through time and patience. Working with the owners too, I am always diligent and informative especially when taking sole care of their animals. I can turn out for shows, clip, take sole responsibility, bandage, apply first aid where required. I enjoy groundwork before backing and as part of their weekly routine.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

The compassion, resilience and growth through providing them with care. An unspoken gratitude and knowing an owner is pleased with your work. I also enjoy being active and working outside.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would really like to expand on my rehab knowledge and skills and would relish the opportunity to further these in the right environment.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I have a keen eye for detail and passion for equine care, I ride with sensitivity and am always keen to learn more through others. I am a hard worker that can be trusted.
