Experience with Horses
I was introduced to horses from a young age and from the participated in weekly lessons, this continued until I reached the age I could volunteer at the stables. I did this every weekend for 3 years, bringing the horses in, feeding them, grooming, mucking out etc and helped leading in the younger lessons. A couple of years ago I part loaned a horse for a few months before the owner moved yards and loved that period of time. I have friends that own their own horses and whenever I stay with them I will always help out with the animals on their property. Recently I au paired in Australia where they kept horses, Some of the horses required medication throughout the day and I would go out and administer it to them and take them on lead walks to help gently bring them back.
Key Skills
I am a quick learner when it comes to a routine with the animals, happy to go out in any weather and like to ensure that things are left tidy. I previously studied a course in animal management and understand how important animal welfare is and how to provide that to different animals.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love being out in the nature with the horses, I enjoy building a bond with them and just seeing them enjoying life. I have always been a massive animal lover and working with horses encourages a very outdoorsy lifestyle with I thrive off of.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
There is, I won’t deny that my skills are not where I would desire them to be, unfortunately especially over the last couple of years I have not been around horses as much as I previously had been, I would love to gain more experience overall in different types of horses and I do believe repetition is key for that.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I think I should be considered as I am a hard worker, quick to pick things up and a massive advocate on communication and wanting the best outcome for everyone. I will always put the most into everything as I believe that provides the best outcome. I am familiar being away from home and pushing myself out of my comfort zone and continue to do so.
